The Pro Kabaddi League’s media rights deal with Star India (now JioStar), which was signed in 2021 for five seasons, has officially come to an end.
Since the inception of the league, Star India has been the official broadcaster of the Pro Kabaddi League. However, in 2021, Mashal Sports, the league’s organizer, conducted an open media rights auction for the first time.
Star India eventually Retained the PKL media rights for the next five seasons (Seasons 8 to 12) with a reported deal worth around ₹905 crore.
Controversies
According to multiple reports, there were no other bidders in the media rights auction (2021), which came as a surprising development. The base price was set at ₹900 crore, and although six major media companies reportedly picked up the Invitation to Tender (ITT) document, only Star India participated in the auction.
Following the announcement of the media rights value, several PKL franchise owners were reportedly unhappy with the outcome. They believed the league had the potential to generate a much higher broadcasting revenue.

Next Media Rights Auction?
Although the previous media rights deal has ended, there has been no official announcement from the PKL organizers regarding the next media rights auction.
With the upcoming PKL season delayed due to the 2026 Asian Games, which will be held in September, the media rights process is also expected to take place later than usual. We may receive an official update in the coming months.
What do you think? Will PKL get a new broadcaster, or would you like to see the league continue with JioStar?
