Whom will U Mumba RETAIN or RELEASE ahead of PKL Season 13? Let’s take a look at the most likely retention decisions for the franchise.

Retention Rules for PKL Season 13

The PKL Season 13 retention process is expected to remain the same as in previous seasons. We have already explained the complete retention process and the rules in a previous blog.

U Mumba Possible Retained Players

# Elite Retained Players

(1) Sandeep Kumar

Sandeep Kumar is a highly talented right raider. U Mumba signed him for ₹49 lakhs in the previous PKL Auction after his impressive performances with Patna Pirates. He justified that investment with an excellent season, scoring 123 Raid Points in 17 matches. Although his retention price will be on the higher side, U Mumba will also be retaining a proven quality raider. Considering his performances, he is one of the strongest contenders to be retained ahead of PKL Season 13.

(2) Sunil Kumar

Sunil Kumar has become the heart of U Mumba over the past few seasons. The experienced Right Cover Defender has been a consistent performer and an outstanding captain for the franchise. Last season, he scored 52 Tackle Points in 19 matches, once again proving his value on the mat. With his leadership, experience, and consistent performances, U Mumba are expected to retain him for another season.

(3) Parvesh Bhainswal

Parvesh Bhainswal is another experienced Left Cover Defender who could continue alongside Sunil Kumar in U Mumba’s defence. He scored 33 Tackle Points in 19 matches last season. However, his retention is slightly more interesting. Before the previous auction, U Mumba released him and later bought him back for ₹25.10 lakhs. Will they follow the same strategy again, retain him directly this time, or look for a new primary left cover? These are some important decisions the franchise will have to make before PKL Season 13.

(4) Rinku Sharma

Rinku Sharma has been a reliable Right Corner Defender for U Mumba. The franchise bought him for just ₹21 lakhs in the previous auction, and he repaid that faith with an impressive campaign, scoring 42 Tackle Points in 19 matches. Considering both his performances and reasonable retention value, he is highly likely to be retained for another season.

# Retained Young Players

(1) Ajit Chauhan

Ajit Chouhan hardly needs an introduction. He is one of the most talented young raiders in the league, although injuries have occasionally interrupted his progress. Last season, he scored 118 Raid Points in 15 matches after being signed by U Mumba as an NYP. His two-year NYP contract has now come to an end. If U Mumba wish to retain him, they will need to offer him a three-season Retained Young Player (RYP) contract. The big question is whether Ajit will accept that offer. If he does, he is expected to remain with U Mumba for the next three seasons under the RYP category.

(2) Mukilan Shanmugam

Left Cover Defender Mukilan Sanmugam was signed as an RYP last season. He now enters the second year of his RYP contract and will automatically remain with U Mumba for the upcoming season. He had limited opportunities last season, featuring in just one match and scoring 1 Tackle Point.

(3) Lokesh Ghosliya

Lokesh Ghosliya is a talented Left Corner Defender who scored 27 Tackle Points in 13 matches last season. His two-year NYP contract has now ended, meaning U Mumba will need to offer him a three-year RYP contract if they wish to retain him. The franchise will have to decide whether to keep him as a backup option or develop him into their primary left corner defender for the future. Given his performances and potential, he is certainly a strong retention candidate.

# Existing New Young Players

Players in this category are those who enter the second year of their two-season NYP contract. Since they were signed as NYPs last season, they will automatically remain with the franchise next season under the Existing New Young Player category.

(1) Mukeshkannan S. (Left Raider)

Did not play any matches in the PKL Season 12.

U Mumba Possible Releases

1. Anil Jasta (Left Raider)

2. Amir MD. Zafardanesh (Right Raider)

3. Rohit Raghav (Right Raider)

4. Satish Kannan (Right Raider)

5. Abhimanyu Raghuvanshi (Right Raider)

6. Amarjeet Gahlawat (Right Raider)

7. Sunny Sehrawat (Left Cover)

8. Mohd. Ghorbani (Right Cover)

10. Ravi Bhati (Right Corner)

11. M. Dhanasekar (Raider)

12. Vijay Redhu (Left Corner)

13. Sachin Narwal (Raider)

So, these are the most likely retention decisions for U Mumba ahead of PKL Season 13. A clearer picture will emerge once the recategorised players list is released and the franchise finalizes its retention strategy.
